Fantasy Prophet: Week 5

by Brian Dorsey

Week 4 has come and gone, so let’s go ahead and find out what’s on our plate for this week. Here are the Top-10 Two Start Pitchers in each league, some interesting notes, and the weather reports.

Two Start Pitchers

AL Top-10

  1. Jared Weaver (at BOS, CLE): We swear, he’s a two start pitcher this week!
  2. Jon Lester (LAA, MIN): Always a slow starter, proving once again why he’s an ace.
  3. Dan Haren (at BOS, CLE): He’s ridiculous. Remember how low he was ranked pre-season? Who wouldn’t take this guy as their number one now?
  4. Justin Verlander (NYY, at TOR): Tough match up in NY, but you start this guy no matter what.
  5. C.C. Sabathia (at DET, at TEX): Decent start, but you’d like to see the big fella get some more wins.
  6. Alex Ogando (at SEA, NYY): This reliever turned starter is proving the the Rangers did the right thing with Feliz.
  7. Clay Buchholz (LAA, MIN): I refuse to believe he’s as bad as he’s pitching right now. His ERA over the last two weeks is looking better (3.75).
  8. Jeremy Guthrie (at CHW, TB): His 2.53 ERA is still available in most Yahoo! public leagues.
  9. Josh Tomlin (at OAK, at LAA): Might be a little bit of magic swirling around Tomlin these days, but that’s ok.
  10. Bartolo Colon (at DET, at TEX): He’s big, and he’s fat, and I promise, he’s going to start two this week.

Jared, Three Down, Three Up

Three Up, Three Down

by Jared Cothren

↑Three Up:

↑Sam Fuld – OF – TB

I contemplated adding Sam Fuld to last week’s edition of “3 up, 3 Down”, but I wanted to see if this virtually unknown player could continue his hot start. Fuld is on a tear this season and already has 10 stolen bases in 13 attempts. Add that he is hitting .284 and has only 13 Ks in 102 ABs, he is proving to be an effective contact hitter in the lead-off spot for the Rays.

"I can't believe I'm playing THIS good either."

↑Jed Lowrie – 2B, SS – BOS

Since becoming a starter for the Red Sox, Jed Lowrie is making Terry Francona’s decision to keep Marco Scutaro on the bench very easy. Over the last 2 weeks, Lowrie is hitting .302 with 2 homers and 7 RBI. Now that Boston has crawled out of their beginning of the season funk are back to scoring runs, he’ll continue to have opportunities to score runs as well as knock them in.

↑Josh Johnson – SP – FLA

Josh Johnson has proven all of his skeptics, including myself, wrong so far…very wrong. Johnson has only allowed 4 earned runs in his 6 starts and he has a microscopic 0.88 ERA. His .130 BAA is tops in the league and according to Elias Sports Bureau he is the first pitcher in the last 50 years to have 3 starts of at least 5 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball in April or within the first 5 starts of season.
